WHO KNEW?

Who Knew? is a Jumblies 2018-19 project in partnership with the Bernard Betel Centre for seniors, in North York, Toronto: artfully sharing stories through conversation, visual arts, dance, music and film.

Project Background:

Who Knew? began as an individual project of Ruth Howard’s (funded by the Toronto Arts Council) in Winter 2019, and then grew into a larger Jumblies project (thanks to funds from New Horizons for Seniors). The artistic team included: Lead Artist: Ruth Howard; Adrienne Marcus Raja, Multi-Media Artist; Choreographer, Michelle Silagy; Composers, Alejandra Nunez & Arie Verheul van de Ven; Artist-facilitators and Translators, Tijana Spasic (Russian, Serbian) & Rakefet Arieli (Hebrew); Singer, Shifra Cooper; and Fabric Artist, Oshan Starreveld.

Activities included a series of Monday afternoon workshops, gathering and exploring personal stories and objects through various art forms, a culminating performance at the Bernard Betel Centre in April and a repeat performance at The Ground Floor in June, a couple of summer 2019 workshops, and involvement of Bernard Betel seniors in our production of Odaabaanag at Harbourfront Centre in November 2019. A potential Spring 2020 phase of Who Knew? was delayed by the pandemic, but some relationships have continued.
