Who Knew? is a Jumblies project in partnership with the Bernard Betel Centre for seniors, in North York, Toronto: artfully sharing stories through conversation, visual arts, dance, music and film.

Upcoming Activities

Who Knew? will be back at the Bernard Betel Centre on Mondays Sept. 9, 16 and 23, from 1:00 to 4:00pm. We’ll be reviewing some of the videos and ceramics we created in the spring and summer, and launching into some new art-making activities.

In November, our Bernard Betel North York friends will be invited into Jumblies Odaabaanag project, through a presentation by composer Beverley McKiver on Oct. 30th at 1pm; and a series of Monday afternoon artmaking workshops and Sunday afternoon singing workshops.

Project Background:

Who Knew? began as an individual project (funded by the Toronto Arts Council) in Winter 2019, and then grew into a larger Jumblies project (thanks to funds from New Horizons for Seniors). The artistic team included: Adrienne Marcus Raja, Multi-Media Artist; Choreographer, Michelle Silagy; Composers, Alejandra Nunez & Arie Verheul van de Ven; Artist-facilitators and Translators, Tijana Spasic (Russian, Serbian) & Rakefet Arieli (Hebrew); Singer, Shifra Cooper; Fabric Artist, Oshan Starreveld, and others.

Activities included a series of Monday afternoon workshops, gathering and exploring personal stories and objects through various art forms, a culminating performance at the Betel Centre in April and a repeat performance at The Ground Floor in June, and a couple of summer workshops.
