Position: Program & Mentorship Director

Location: Downtown Toronto (The Ground Floor, 126 & 132 Fort York Blvd.)
Salary: Competitive in arts sector and commensurate with experience
Term: ongoing full-time position
We are searching for someone to fill a new position with Jumblies: taking on leadership of our homebase and other mentorship related initiatives.
This is envisioned as a mid-career position, requiring administrative and artistic flair, patience, inclination and aptitude. The ideal candidate would thrive in our flexible work environment, which encourages both self-reliance and capacity to work within structures, schedules and deadlines, both
collaboratively and independently.
This position will report to the Artistic Director and also work closely with the General Manager.
The Ground Floor:
– Maintaining a full-time supportive presence at The Ground Floor;
– Working closely with Jumblies’ Artistic Director, General Manager and other relevant lead artists and staff members in determining, directing and managing programming at The Ground Floor;
– Taking on management and supervision of already-established/planned programming, as well as initiating and guiding new activities, projects and longer-range visions and programming,
gradually taking increased organizational and creative leadership;
– Managing and supervising regular and contracted staff, artists and interns;
– Conducting/supervising outreach to community participants including phoning/posters and flyers/social media/in-person;
– Maintaining and cultivating local (CityPlace), Toronto and Ontario cross-sector partnerships related to The Ground Floor programs and activities;
– Supporting all programs, activities, and special events, presentations by Jumblies and via rentals and loan of space at The Ground Floor.
– Directing/managing/coordinating Jumblies’ mentorship-related programs (e.g. Artist Exchange, Internships, Seed Grants, Residencies, Platform A), in collaboration with/supervision of other staff members as determined, including planning, budgets and funders, partners, scheduling, supervision, communications, logistics, mentorship, documentation, evaluation.
– Contributing to overall company calendars, schedules, staff meetings and short and long-term planning processes;
– Managing/ensuring collection and entry of relevant statistical data from The Ground Floor and other designated programs, to comply with Jumblies tracking and reporting systems and protocols;
– Managing budgets and finances related to The Ground Floor and other designated programs;
– Contributing to/taking initiative in writing of proposals and other fundraising initiatives concerning relevant initiatives and projects;
– Ensuring good management and upkeep of The Ground Floor facilities;
– Report-writing and other administrative and programming tasks as relevant and designated;
– Upholding and promoting the vision, mandate, values, policies and practices of Jumblies and contributing to and participating in the overall life of our company.
Requirements and Qualifications:
– 5+ years experience working in roles of responsibility and leadership in community-engaged arts, including substantial experience in both creative and administrative areas;
– Knowledge, understanding of and commitment to inclusive community-engaged arts;
– Post-secondary education in a relevant field, or equivalent alternative learning experience;
– Substantial experience in Human Resource management – of staff, artists, learners, volunteers;
– Experience and success in writing arts grants and knowledge of community arts funding scene;
– Experience providing mentorship, guidance and support to community arts learners;
– Experience engaging members of the public of diverse backgrounds, ages and abilities;
– Strong written and verbal skills in English – other languages an asset;
– Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, and proficiency with/high aptitude to learn other IT programs and applications (e.g. data bases, graphics, web-based);
– Excellent time management and organizational skills;
– Ability to assume leadership, as well as supporting others in the lead.
