In 2006, in response to growing interest, Jumblies initiated a more intentional focus on learning and mentorship: a thread of the company we call the Jumblies Studio. Based in Toronto with a national reach, the Jumblies Studio is a flexible, integrated and itinerant full-time program for learning, mentorship and exploration in Arts that engage with and create Community.
The Jumblies Studio roots theory in practice, welcomes all disciplines and traditions; encourages idiosyncratic artistic visions; is embedded in active community-based projects; and equips artists with the know-how to survive outside the specialized arts world. Activities include an intensive introductory 6-day course (Artfare Essentials), training and internships of varied lengths, project support and consultancy, seminars, creative explorations, and print and digital resources.
Around 2009 we started getting requests to bring our workshops to other parts of Canada: Vancouver, Regina and Nipissing First Nation. This led to seeking and receiving funds to develop portable workshops to be delivered with partners across the province and country, resulting in three years of cross-country workshops and collaborations, culminating in the 2015 West to East coast tour, Train of Thought, followed by a legacy of continued projects, workshops, collaborations and intern exchanges.
