MABELLEartsTo find out more about MABELLEarts and their
MABELLEarts brings together people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to make art: to talk, work, play, plant, tell, build, remember, think, sew, eat, celebrate, draw, sing and mourn, transforming indoor and outdoor spaces in and around Mabelle – a Toronto Community Housing complex in Etobicoke. MABELLEarts is a Jumblies Offshoot, springing from a 3-year residency and the 2007 production of Bridge of One Hair. Now a self-sufficient organization under the Artistic Direction of Leah Houston, MABELLEarts remains a member of the Jumblies family and a partner in the Jumblies Studio. Since 2007 MABELLEarts has been offering arts workshops in a variety of disciplines in order to transform and enliven a once-forgotten park in the centre of the Mabelle neighbourhood. To date we have planted gardens, built and enjoyed an outdoor oven, cooked community feasts over an open fire, built new furniture, created a winter (!) parade, sewn textile art, hosted performance workshops and theatre events, painted sticks, and so much more. STAFF AND ARTISTS Artistic Director: Leah Houston Consultants (past and present): Ruth Howard, Keith McNair, Heather Young and Jane Marsland. |
