Production and Legacy
- Mural Routes incorporates Jumblies Three Lands Of Scarborough text into a mural on the railing of the Lawrence Avenue Bridge, and Jumblies takes part in the second Subtext Festival, under the bridge.
- We launch into an intensive production and rehearsal process in September, leading to the final presentation of LIKE AN OLD TALE from December 8 to 18 at Commercial Studios at Pharmacy and Eglinton.
- Our production activities are spread across the neighbourhood, with a costume and prop shop in the food bank at 4100 Lawrence East, rehearsals at Cedar Ridge, West Hill United Church and 4205 Lawrence, art drop-ins at the Morningside Library and the Lido Motel, workshops at Willow Park and Eastview Schools and dance with Tamil Seniors and others at Greencest TCH.
- Parallel rehearsals and activities take place at Arts4All, MABELLEarts, Making Room (in Parkdale) and Aanmitaagzi.
- We plan to host as National Community Play Exchange Symposium, during the run of the show, to bring delegates and veteran community arts participants from across the country.
- The number of associate artists, interns, community members, and partner organizations involved exceed our projections (with 600+ project participants and 45+ professional artists involved to date).
- Following the December production, Jumblies will enter the legacy phase of our Scarborough residency and support the Community Arts Guild in becoming our newest, self-sufficient Offshoot, under the emerging leadership of Beth Helmers.
- Beth and the Community Arts Guild will embark on a new multi-year project called the LOST AND FOUND TRIPTICH, which will express stories created by our now-veteran Tamil Seniors through three different art forms (an audio drama, a ballad-puppet show and a participatory film), involving all the other people and groups from the neighbourhood – those we know and those still to be met and welcomed.
